The event took place at the Salt River branch in Cape Town.  The huge empty warehouse was completely transformed with layers of draping covering the walls and neat carpeting along the floor. AV Direct then flew a JBL VRX line array with SRX subs and front fills to round off the audio in the room. 4 large-format projection screens were then setup, projected onto via Christie and Sanyo DLP projectors.

Then a 3 tier stage was provided, cladded in white gloss sheeting for the speaker, band and choir. Either side of the stage was a truss totem rigged with Samsung 51″ HD screens, Futurelight scanners and LED washlights. A LED strip coloured set design was then used to create a backdrop behind the stage.

The arrival registration and seating took place, while a beautiful performance from the choir commenced.

The formalities then started with a fabulous speech and presentation, looking back on the success of the company’s work over the past 150 years.

Brian Molefe, Transnet GCE, gave an overview of the Salt River station, followed by an introduction of the Minister by Mafika Mkwanzi. A powerful address by the DPE Minister Malusi Gigaba followed.

This set the tone for the great celebrations ahead.

The event was hailed as a fantastic success and it could not be possible without the help of Southern Cross Conferences, who organised the amazing catering, the floor carpeting, decor and draping, managing the whole event and even went so far as to ensure all our staff had amazing lunch!

A special mention to Shelly Stedman from Southern Cross Conferences, for looking after the knitty gritty behind the scenes and ensuring a smooth operation!

This is what they had to say:

“Thank you, thank you and thank you again for all the hard work and effort that was put into making the Transnet 150 Year celebration happen. I cannot stress enough how your assistance in putting together this event made me feel confident and so much more at ease, considering the short amount of time that we had been given.

In my opinion, the event was spectacular thanks to all you audio & visual expertise!

I look forward to working with you on the next project!”
